.99 Cent |
|
The.99-CENT PROJECT
After September 11th a heightened sense of nationalism arose among Americans in the United States and with that came the consumption of objects used to display images of patriotism. The objects collected for this project are the surplus finds from various 99-Cent stores around New York City, each object referencing the flag. Produced in other countries, the map reveals a cut out of the country of production, revealing not only certain aesthetic characteristics of the flag but also offering a new translation of the country and the object itself.

Squated Social Spaces in Europe, 1999 |
|
In the summer of 1999 I journeyed to Europe to investigate other models of squatted social spaces like ABC No Rio in New York. Through interviews and documentation I had hoped to gain a better understanding of their histories, their struggle to becoming legal (or not) as well as, their contribution to the community.
