On a quest to investigate other models of squatted social spaces like ABC No Rio in New York, I traveled to Europe in the summer of 1999 hoping to gain a better understanding of their histories, their struggles to becoming legal (or not) as well as, their contribution to their communities through documentation and interviews. Through this process I discovered a range of spaces in terms not only terms of their functions and projects but as well as the many visual nuances that made each space unique.
